STYLE GURU STYLE: Build Your Foundation

A closet full of all the latest trends might seem nice for a season, but what happens when they go out of style? What are you left with? I try to build my basic wardrobe up as much as possible, slowly collecting pieces here and there: a classic white shirt here, a chambray shirt there. Without that strong foundation, it’s hard to build your personal style.

Chadwick Bell’s spring 2015 collection is all about simple, no-fuss clothing. He gets down to the basics; each piece in the collection is versatile and the layering is intentional. With mostly blacks and whites in the collection there’s an air of edge and sophistication. The makeup is equally important as it complements the look and overall feel of the collection. The model’s faces are dewy and fresh, which I like to think translates to: “I didn’t try too hard for this look.”

The foundation of my look is a crisp white button-down. I think throwing on a button-down is always a good idea. The classic choice complements the high-waisted black shorts, which have a big black bow on the front of them. The chunky wedges, that have been a staple of mine recently, are a good piece to put into a wardrobe that needs a little more edge.

To dress the outfit up a little bit, but still keep my face looking fresh I used a little bit of Too Faced blush and just a swipe of mascara. The idea of the look is not to try too hard and I like the fact that I can still feel the breeze through my outfit. I think Chadwick Bell sums up this look perfectly: “There’s something really worldly about this woman.”

Get My Look: 1. A classic white button-down. 2. High-waisted shorts. 3. Chunky black wedges.
