STYLE GURU STYLE: Brushing Off The Classics

When it comes to the classics, it is always amazing to me how the simple twists of styling and pairing breathe fresh life into the time old styles. The John Galliano pre-fall 2016 collection does just this. The juxtaposition of the oversized and the tailored produce totally new and stylish looks. The collection also takes prints and returns them to their chic origin. The entire collection is centered around the concept of taming, whether it be that of the bold patterns or the expansive flowing skirts. Neutrals are used to anchor a loud leopard skirt, only further increasing its impact. The structured coats that appear in most of the looks bring together the free-flowing fabric to create a cohesive image. All these details of styling work together to reinvent these beloved classic pieces into fashion forward outfits that you can easily translate into your own life.

Looking through this runway show inspired me to take advantage of the classics I already own to create a stylish outfit. The main theme of the collection was the layering of structured tops over a free-flowing bottom. A favorite of the show was the white button-down, so naturally I started with that as the base. Buttoning it to the top is an easy styling move to reinforce the structuralist nature of the shirt. I really emphasized this with a double layering of leather. Adding some contrast, I paired the look with a loose skirt. I finished the outfit with my favorite pair of black heels.

Get My Look: 1. White button-up. 2. Leather jacket. 3. Stilettos.
