STYLE GURU STYLE: Brocade, Bold Black and Gold

I love the spring runway shows; they’re very refreshing amidst all of the gloominess that settles in during the winter. That being said, Dolce&Gabbana amazed me this season with their brocades, dark and moody colors and abundance of gold and embroidered elements. Each look was glamorous and completely encrusted in stylish details without feeling too fussy. The dresses all had a beautiful free-flowing movement that was almost bohemian, while more tailored pieces like prim blazers and trendy high-waisted shorts infused the collection with a sophistication that is signature of Dolce&Gabbana. My favorite aspects of the collection were the numerous brocade pieces and multiple metallics. They prove that glitz is not confined to the holidays and makes for beautiful transition pieces in the seemingly endless cold.

Completely inspired by the details of Dolce&Gabbana, I tore apart my closet in preparation for this outfit. I highlighted the collection’s brocades with this black and gold skirt, which I made myself after a recent fabric-buying binge. A red-orange top and some classic scarlet lipstick add a bright pop of color (red is my go to on such dreary days!). I topped the whole look off with a navy and black knitted cardigan. I love that there are metallic components throughout, which is why I opted for sparkly tights. They also make for an interesting mix of texture, and carry over a similar geometric print as seen in the cardigan. As for jewelry, I felt that a statement necklace was fitting, along with some enamel bangles. My favorite accessory? The ear cuff: I am absolutely obsessed!

Dolce&Gabbana’s spring 2015 collection shows that glamour is always in season. Go for gold (silver and bronze too!) and don’t be afraid to be a little bolder in such attention-grabbing pieces. This look is bright and sophisticated, a perfect combination to get you through the rest of the winter.

Get My Look: 1. A brocade skirt (more metallics, please!). 2. Red lips forever and always. 3. An ear cuff.
