STYLE GURU STYLE: Boyish Business

Now that 50 degrees feels warm, let’s get back the good stuff. I am a dress and sneaker connoisseur. Call it tomboy and call it what you want, but it works.

If you didn’t already realize, New Balance and adidas are back and better to run spring 2015. With choices ranging from the class adidas to pastel-colored New Balance sneakers, you should be ready to kick it. You heard it here first—indoor soccer kicks are in. Sorry Vans, 2015 will not be your year.

Now, back to me. I am sporting some Air Jordans that are mostly white with a hint of black. I don’t wear these unless I know there will be sunshine from morning to night. It is important that if you chose to go all-white, they remain all-white, or I find it pointless (especially if they’re Air Force 1s). But I’ll continue sneaker spotlights next week. Let’s talk apparel.

My look is inspired by the adidas by Stella McCartney spring 2015 line. I have been waiting until I was able to let my inspiration be shown in warmer weather. McCartney sparked a new look when pairing workout clothing such as cycling shorts with lace. This is the way I view my look as well. Matching a dress with sneakers is my own way of expressing this style.

You can find sundresses anywhere but this spring calls for solids. Skater dresses are the easiest and cheapest buy. To top it off, they are even easier to dress up! I’ve most recently been enjoying bralettes and dresses which fall loosely around the upper body. We’ve seen enough designs to last us a lifetime so I think it’s time for the gray cotton dress to shine. Pair it with a cute denim vest, some Vans, high socks and a statement necklace, and see yourself out the door.

Now for the layers.  I am big on layering a coat over a zip-up. A peacoat, a jean jacket or a puffer vest all work over a hooded sweatshirt. It’s adorable and adds style with ease.

Make it work Fashionistas, because spring is on its way!

Get My Look: 1. A cute skater dress. 2. A pair of kickin’ sneakers. 3. Trendy socks.
