STYLE GURU STYLE: Boyfriend Style Without the Boyfriend

Living in Akron, Ohio means that the weather can change in an instant. We can have spring like weather in the morning, a blizzard by 1 p.m., and end the day with a nice fall evening. While we are already a month into 2017, the only way that I’m able to survive is being cozied up and comfortable. A pretty constant look throughout my wardrobe is oversized with a dash of “boyfriend” vibes.

One of my favorite looks, any season, is the boyfriend coat, otherwise known as oversized outerwear. Taking inspiration from Pantone’s 2017 color of the year greenery, I found this adorable boyfriend button-down jacket that I am able to do so much with. Since I am more on the petite side, jackets and shirts along this line run a little bit larger on me but I am a firm believer that this look is not only for tall people.

I styled this jacket with a plain white top underneath that was also on the loose side. I wanted to keep things a little more simple since my necklace and large cuff bracelet were making such a statement. I love playing on the contrast of things and went for a more feminine curly hair style with a boxy jacket, and a heavy metal necklace. I also adore a pop of color and added the red shoulder bag. I paired this look with some over-the-knee suede boots for a more causal day look. This look transitions so well from day to night with a few accessory changes. You could also pair this with booties or a heel for something a bit more fun or sophisticated.

This jacket has quickly become a staple in my winter wardrobe and I’m looking forward to some fun styling when the snow finally melts and spring is here.
