With summer quickly coming to an end and my time interning reaching its close, I feel that now is the time to take my wardrobe up, and end these past four amazing months in a super fashionable way. I’ve gone through midi skirts and crop tops when the sun was shining bright, to crewneck sweaters and boyfriend jeans when the thundstorms decided to strike. While this summer hasn’t been the nicest one in the books, I have enjoyed the rather cool temperatures and the rainy afternoons.
On my most recent “casual Friday” at work, I just couldn’t decide what to wear. I usually go straight for a pair of skinny jeans with a funky blazer, but I was feeling somewhat bored of that. I wanted to spice things up a bit. Knowing that it would not disappoint, I headed to Style.com for some ideas and inspiration.
I think it’s safe to say that if I could create a collection of my own, Calla’s fall 2014 couture collection would be just the one. From the simple booties paired with varying bottoms to the touches of plaid seen throughout, almost every look seemed like a chicer version of something I would wear. Using lucky look one, I immediately took to my closet, already having an outfit idea in mind.
Since I unfortunately don’t own a skirt or dress that I thought fit the bill, I decided to work around my favorite pair of leather skinnies instead. This type of pant is a nice mix-up from the usual pair of jeans, and they definitely go with everything. To incorporate the plaid aspect of the look, I chose a red, black and white plaid button-down. To me, button-downs are timeless, and while they are casual, they still create a put together look perfect for the office.
Of course, I couldn’t forget the booties, and I decided to go with my tan Steve Maddens. With the plaid and leather combo being rather busy, I kept accessories minimal and went with my gold, chain heart necklace that was a classic flea market steal. I picked a messy bun to keep my hair off my face, and before I knew it I was ready for a fun Friday at work.
It can be tempting to immediately run to jeans and a simple top for a casual day at the office, but switching the look up a little can be a lot more fun. Next time you are looking to add some flare to a laid back work ensemble, search for fun pieces like plaid shirts and booties that can go with a range of outfits. Always remember, a trusty fashion site can be your ticket to a personal stylist!
