STYLE GURU STYLE: Bonita Applebum

Summer is ending as school will begin to take up our days. Fall will trail behind its tracks. However, let’s cherish these last days of summer, especially with Labor Day quickly approaching. Though it is now September, the weather still feels like August. This outfit is basically my last hurrah for ending the summer season.

Like I said in my STYLE GURU BIO, I have a penchant of opting for neutrals; however, that does not mean my outfits have to be boring. Some of the colors I am strongly attracted to are black and white. The runway show that I came across was the Christian Dior spring 2015 collection. Most of the outfits paired black and white in unexpected ways. I wanted to translate those colors into my own wardrobe.

For accessories, I kept it minimalistic by sporting a couple of sterling silver bangles. For me, sterling silver is the most elegant material for jewelry. No necklace, no earrings—I wanted the focus on my hair and makeup, to be honest with you. To avoid my outfit from looking subpar, I opted for big, dramatic hair. To complete the look, orange lipstick, a strong staple in my makeup arsenal, was used to its full potential. My orange satchel was the perfect match for the lips. Can you believe that I got it from a thrift shop? To my surprise, it matches many things in my wardrobe. For my shoes—the gray and black colors did not overshadow that outfit. What I love about these sandals is the masculinity. Though I wore a maxi dress, the masculine sandals were a simple contrast.

I hope you loved my outfit as much as I did. It was fun to try something a bit more dramatic then how I would usually dress. I wanted to end summer with a bang!

Get My Look: 1. Striped maxi dress. 2. Sandals. 3. Bag.
