STYLE GURU STYLE: Bombers and Basics

Hey there Fashionistas! I hope everyone’s summer has been filled with lots of fun outings and sunshine! When I go out and around town with friends or down to the boardwalk on nights when there’s a live band or street festival I like to dress it up a bit. My current obsession right now for throwing over my white T-shirt when it starts to get chilly in the evenings is a bomber jacket. These cute jackets are a major trend right now and are a subtle nod to the ‘90s. They are perfect for pairing with your outfits for a simple day-to-night look.

I personally am also in love with anything embroidered. I’m seeing a lot of embroidery right now on bombers, this adds an extra bit of flair to an already stylish piece. I’ve also been seeing a lot of statement jackets and embroidery making an appearance on the runways lately and I feel like these bold looks are a major trend and are a fun addition to any wardrobe. Rachel Comey’s pre-fall 2016 show even featured some awesome embroidered pieces including an amazing embroidered jacket in the first look. In her show she paired them with dark denim and bright pops of color. This show had a definite western vibe because of the large amount of denim looks and floral accenting. I immediately felt in love with Comey’s chic country story and couldn’t wait to put together a look inspired by it.

I used the embroidered jacket in Comey’s show as an inspiration for my look, pairing my bomber with dark denim like she did. I then finished off the look with simple flats and a plain white T-shirt. I’m a huge fan of basics; I love to have those go-to wardrobe items that I can pair with anything whether I’m feeling bold and colorful or dark and chic. In my opinion black jeans should already be a staple item in any woman’s wardrobe. They are a versatile piece that doesn’t seem to be going out of style anytime soon. Basically what I’m trying to say here is that black jeans, they’re your best friend, and don’t even get me started on the necessity of a staple plain white T-shirt. Once you’ve found those tried and true basics, having fun with a statement piece feels a bit easier. Not all of us like to make huge statements with our outfits, but one statement piece can help to make your outfit look edgy and stylish without pushing you too far out of your comfort zone. For me, my statement item was the jacket. I felt stylish and edgy walking around downtown with this on and my ripped black jeans and I know that I’ll definitely be trying to find new ways to incorporate this jacket into my summer wardrobe.
