STYLE GURU STYLE: Bold In Black

Two colors in particular that are taking over the runways for spring 2015 are black and white. Fashion designers are using both colors together and individually for head to toe looks. One designer that implemented these color concepts was Michael Kors. I like that his line featured both monochromatic looks and fun patterns. The style inspirations that could occur from this line are infinite. His all-black looks at the end of his show caught my eye especially. He featured black dresses in sheer fabrics and A-line silhouettes.

I chose to expand on this all-black look in my outfit. I am usually one to embrace colors and, unlike most people, I need to neutralize my wardrobe. But recently I have been starting to appreciate the simplicity of the color black. Black is appropriate for any situation and automatically makes an outfit look sophisticated and put together. I decided to mimic this trend while remaining true to my style by wearing black pieces that implemented one of my favorite textiles—leather. This is shown in the leather accents in the sleeves of my sweater, the side of my pants, my boots and cross-body bag.

I hope to use this trend to my advantage more in the future. Taking the opportunity to follow this runway trend showed me that I can take trends that are out of my comfort zone and still make them my own. I guess taking on the world in all-black isn’t so boring after all.
