STYLE GURU STYLE: Bold in Black and White

It is impossible to come up with just one word to best describe Junya Watanbe’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The collection is an awe-inspiring display of complex architectural pieces grounded by a simple color scheme. Large geometric pieces are presented in color-block black and white, and splashes of color only add to the visual interest in the collection.

I’ve always been one to lean on the side of simplicity, but I felt exceptionally inspired by this collection. There’s something powerful about color-blocking, and I think this takes it to the next level. I paired a solid black maxi skirt with a white sleeveless mock turtleneck top.The best part about keeping your main pieces simple is that you can turn anything you want into a focus piece. Playing off of the vibrant pops of red and magenta in the Watanbe collection, I put on a wine red floppy hat. A fun and feminine piece like this is an easy way to take an outfit from average to inspirational.

I wanted to find a way to incorporate the architectural dimension I saw on the runway, so my mind immediately went to my geometric rhinestone earrings. Though a large statement necklace would have put across the same idea, I wanted something daintier to balance with the large hat I donned. I completed the look with a set of my favorite stackable rings, a widly popular trend that’s easy to make your own, and a classic gold watch.  All you need to do is find the style that speaks to you. For me it’s small, simple and geometric.

Get My Look: 1. Mock turtleneck shirt. 2. Floppy hat. 3. Stackable rings.
