STYLE GURU STYLE: Bold in Black and White

Spring 2016 is all about color-blocking black and white. This classic color combination dominated the runway in Céline’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. The collection showcased a mix of feminine silhouettes with menswear-inspired pieces. There were many structured jackets over loose, flowy garments. Most of the outfits were not complete without a pair of chunky ankle boots. A bold pop of red lips kept the looks classic and sophisticated.

Black and white color-blocking is my favorite trend of the season because these colors combined look very clean and polished. These colors never go out of style, and you can easily transition them from season to season. I was inspired to incorporate this trend into a dressy but laid-back look, which is my go-to style. I am wearing a white blazer with black piping; shoulder pads give it a more masculine look. The blazer is worn over a light, black blouse with ruffles and white trim. To keep things casual, I paired these pieces with dark wash skinny jeans. Much like Céline’s collection, I completed my look with a pair of chunky black ankle booties. These are a staple that should be in every Fashionista’s wardrobe because they go great with everything! For accessories, I chose silver and black rings. Black oversized sunglasses are both stylish and practical for the spring sun. A red lip pops off the black and white color palette.

Céline’s nod to the ’80s and feminine, yet masculine collection showcases many spring trends. Contrasting black and white is a trend that anyone can tie into their wardrobe. A simple color palette that can easily be worn with a bold pop of color on the lip or as an accessory.

Get My Look: 1. A polished white and black blazer 2. Ruffled blouse. 3. Leather black booties.
