STYLE GURU STYLE: Blanket Scarf

The minute I saw photos of Cara Delevingne marching out on the Burberry Prorsum fall 2014 ready-to-wear runway, I knew that blanket scarves were going to be a key item in my closet. If you search the term in any search engine, you’ll find that every major retailer, from H&M to Zara, carries their take on this lustworthy item. Soft, warm and all-around stylish, they are the perfect accessory to add oomph to any simple look.

My most recent purchase reminded me quite a bit of Christopher Bailey’s collection that featured a plethora of colors. While most of the models wore the scarf draped over one shoulder, I wear mine as a shawl. This helps keep me warm when I’m walking outdoors on campus or when I can’t seem to warm up in class. Moreover, the collection featured several different materials including cashmere and lace. Since my scarf is made of acrylic, I paired it with a cashmere sweater stolen from my boyfriend and my trusty Michael Kors leather purse. To complete the look, I wore simple black heels that help transition this look from day to night.

I can safely say that this is my go-to outfit almost any day of the week as there is nothing easier to dress up than a basic long sleeve shirt and skinny jeans, especially with my growing collection of scarves. From fall through spring, they are a staple in my closet and my most trusted accessory during colder months. They add to my look by giving it a much needed pop of color and can easily be worn at school, while shopping or when I’m out on a date. You really can’t go wrong when you’re draped in a blanket scarf!
