Kimonos and ponchos are everywhere now and come in all materials, color, lengths and patterns, making it easy for everyone to find one of their desire. I have always loved kimonos, but sometimes it can be difficult to know when to wear them. These staple pieces are great thrown over any basic outfit adding a bit of excitement and extra layers incase it gets chilly indoors or at night.
When I saw The Row ready-to-wear 2014 collection, I started jumping for joy. The collection is filled with neutrals, soft oversized sweaters and, yes, blanket-like kimonos. I immediately wanted to find a way to use these characteristics for a summer look in the city. Luckily, my favorite kimono (or poncho to some) is a subtle tie-dye of neutrals, but lightweight enough to wear during the summer months.
The Row has a very simple outlook for this collection of simple angles and basic layering, but I wanted to take my oversized kimono and experiment a bit. I put on my favorite floral sheer maxi slip, added chunky black shoes and completed the look with my light colored kimono. This look is perfect for simple errand running or a casual dinner with a friend in Brooklyn.
Kimonos are a staple in my wardrobe and do an excellent job in making any look a little bit more exciting or cozy, depending on the fabric and colors. Invest in one now and be able to look funky all summer long and stay warm when the chilly weather hits this fall.
