STYLE GURU STYLE: Blanket Cape

February 22nd, 2016 at 2:10am

Cozy up this winter in a blanket cape! Looking over Burberry’s fall 2015 collection, I was inspired by the style that shouted out retro. Burberry, pairing suede with floral and paisley with fringe, brought the ’70s trend to life in this collection. The tones of indigo, deep red and other warm neutrals created a stylish palette, but my favorite part of this collection was the heavy outerwear; jackets, trench coats, ponchos and my favorite—the blanket cape!

I took the blanket cape and added it to an everyday simple outfit to bring that fun ’70s bohemian vibe. It adds warmth for those cold winter days. Try throwing it over your usual sweater or coat, or wear it over your outfit of the day.  A statement cape is a piece that is fun and functional, and they are a dream if you love layers!

In this outfit, I’m wearing a blanket cape that has a fun color-blocking pattern on it. I paired it with a 70s-inspired denim skirt with button detailing. If you wanted to do something different try the same style of skirt, but in a fun colorful suede. I added a black purse with some fringe detail and a short black bootie to finish off the look. Mixing denim and black adds the perfect amount of contrast. If you want to add more warmth, try some black knee-high socks or a pair of opaque tights.

For class, brunch or a fun day out shopping, I love this cute retro look. The blanket cape is an easy way to add a trendy piece and the ’70s bohemian vibe to your outfit!
