STYLE GURU STYLE: Black is the New Black

Even though it’s June, I’ve been drawn towards a darker, minimalistic wardrobe; namely black. This sentiment was echoed in DKNY’s line at resort 2016 fashion week. Donna Karan did a complete about face from her bright fall line and dived into a pallet of mostly black and white. I couldn’t be happier about that!

Taking inspiration from DKNY’s fresh, modern look, I’ve decided to go for a monochromatic look myself. The oversized black T-shirt is a direct draw from the line which incorporates only loose clothing. I wanted this aspect of my look to directly reflect the line. I love the look and feel of an oversized piece; it requires a certain amount of confidence to ensure that the look doesn’t end up wearing you.

I paired this with a my black jeggings which gave a me neat, put together look, even though I’m essentially not wearing pants. Fitted clothing is definitely not part of this line, but I had to incorporate my personality too! In addition to maintaining my personality, the jeggings also call more attention to the oversized shirt, giving the look a more purposeful feel.

Although this line encorporates white canvas shoes, I decided to finish this look off with a pair of black platform ankle booties. Because I decided to wear fitted bottoms, my shoes are on more of a display than the shoes of DKNY’s line. I also wanted to make more of a statement with my shoes as well as continue wearing black throughout the look.

The great thing about this look and DKNY’s overall resort 2016 line is that it incorporates the fundamental necessities of any wardrobe. Black and white will never go out of style. Minimalism and conservatism will never not be chic.

Get My Look: 1. Any oversized T-shirt. 2. Jeggings or leggings. 3. A classic pair of platform ankle booties.
