STYLE GURU STYLE: Black Is The New Black

In the wise words of Meryl Streep’s character from The Devil Wears Prada: “florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” Instead, Alexandre Vauthier opted for a darker palette in his spring 2016 couture collection.

Let me start by saying this—I love black. A black basic will work with almost every item in your wardrobe, it’s nearly impossible to stain and it always looks chic. This outfit is all about pairing basics to create a striking ensemble.

The focus on neutral colors and monochromatic outfits in Vauthier’s show is what really caught my eye. The looks from his show are fairly easy to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe, and all of the items could translate nicely into other outfits. Although it’s still winter, when spring rolls around most of the trends usually involve bright colors and patterns, leaving the darker shades behind. I love seeing spring looks that don’t limit my wardrobe.

A little black dress is a staple in every Fashionista’s closet. It can be worn for almost any occasion and with almost anything. A trendy mock neck black dress was featured in multiple looks on the runway during Vauthier’s show, showing the versatility of the piece. Pairing the dress with a black blazer and over-the-knee heeled boots gives the outfit a more professional feel and is perfect for an interview. Accessorizing with a black leather tote, black cat-eye sunglasses and a gold watch lend a more glamorous feel to the overall look.
