STYLE GURU STYLE: Black And Gold

Old movies are the best, especially ones from the ‘60s like the famous Audrey Hepburn film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The fashion is wonderful in the movie, specifically in the opening scene when Hepburn is wearing her iconic LBD, paired with her kitten heel shoes, evening gloves and her elegant sunglasses. My obsession with Hepburn’s LBD is precisely why I was so drawn to A.L.C.’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. It happens to be based off 1960s cinema.

There is definitely no lack of Hepburn’s sophistication in A.L.C.’s collection. The apparel contained both simplistic and elegant scenery of dresses, jackets, pants and crop tops. Each outfit was paired to perfection with sleek black loafers, an ideal shoe of the early ‘60s. Even though every piece in the line was gorgeous, I was especially drawn to the more tomboyish, black pants and black crop top combination, probably because of my current obsession with all black apparel. I had to replicate my own attire inspired by A.L.C.’s line.

For my own modern, monochromatic version, I decided to forego the flowing pants and replace them with more casual black jeggings. The distressed material gave the pants a slight grunge edge to the outfit. I replaced A.L.C’s crop top with a more conservative dressy, button-down shirt that matched effortlessly with a simple, V-neck T-shirt. I wore my favorite black-and-white oxfords for a trace of that old school ‘60s Hollywood glamour. A gold, asymmetrical statement necklace was the final touch, which gave off a golden hue compared to the rest of the black ensemble.

Overall, in my chic all black apparel, I almost feel like I’m wearing a modern version of Audrey Hepburn’s LBD. Now, all I need is Tiffany’s.

Get My Look: 1. An all black button-down shirt. 2. Distressed black jeggings. 3. A gold statement necklace. 4. Classy black oxfords.
