STYLE GURU STYLE: Binge On Fringe

One of the first bags I ever owned was a turquoise cross-body with fringe trim. I doubt if I would use the bag now, but since that purchase I have always had a soft spot for anything and everything fringe. Burberry Prorsum’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear show was a dream come true: there was fringe everywhere. The collection featured fringed bags, scarves, boots and my personal favorite—capes. To recreate one of my favorite looks, I used a fringed blanket cape to create an easy everyday outfit. The result is a subtler, casual look with a chic twist.

I started with a monochromatic base of black skinnies and a black T-shirt and then layered a blanket cape with fringe trim over the top. During the winter months when jackets and sweaters are the norm, capes are a fun and comfortable way to mix things up and the fringe detailing adds a laid back, cool vibe. Additionally, blanket capes are really warm, making them the perfect way to survive the freezing winter weather in style.

I love combining neutrals, so I decided to add tan details with my booties and hat. The added neutrals prevent the look from being all-black but still keep things coordinated and cohesive. Finally, to really finish the look and give it a touch of my everyday personal style, I added my favorite gold jewelry, aviator sunglasses and a wide brim fedora. If you feel like taking this look to the next level, consider adding booties or a tote with fringe detailing.
