Most of the time my style is more reserved and casual. Sometimes though, I like to make a change, and wear things that are a bit out of the ordinary. One trend that I personally like is leather in the summer, which is exactly why I fell in love with the Alexander Wang resort 2014 collection. The collection consists of a plethora of leather pieces like shorts, pants, skirts and jackets. It may seem a little odd and not entirely summery, but Alexander Wang succeeds in making leather look like the perfect summer material. Most of the ensembles consist of neutral colors like black, white and tan, but there are a few pops of color thrown in with pink. This pop of color is key in making the collection perfect for the resort season.
This week, I chose to emulate my favorite outfit from this collection, while adding some personal flair. The base of my outfit is extremely similar to the one in the collection. I started with a boxy, silk shirt from Topshop and paired it with a pair of loose, black leather shorts. The contrast between the black and white pieces looks as crisp and clean in my ensemble as it does on the runway.
Putting a personal twist on the ensemble, I added colored nail polish and baroque sunglasses. The colored nail polish acts like the pink pieces in the collection. As the rest of my outfit is black and white, the bit of red is the perfect pop of color in a sea of neutrals. My black, baroque sunglasses added a bit of quikiness to the look. Their funky and unique design is an easy way to add some intricate detailing to any outfit.
While ordinarily, leather is not a summer material, give it a go and try it out. With a pair of leather shorts or a skirt, it is easy to assimilate leather into your summer wardrobe.
