STYLE GURU STYLE: Best Suited to Empower

In the words of Brandon Maxwell himself, “Making women feel beautiful is what truly makes me happy.” From the first moment I glanced at Brandon Maxwell’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection, I fell in love virtually with each part. Every piece in his show was beautifully constructed and tailored, from a blush cape suit jacket to a white high-collar trench with a waist tie.  The sleeveless tri-layer jumpsuit featured in his collection immediately stood out to me. The structure and elegance embodied in this collection inspired this look I’m wearing, from head to toe.

The simple, yet sophisticated, shoes I wore lined right up with the spring collection Maxwell created. My block heeled sandals from BCBGeneration added flair to the all-black jumpsuit. The flair Maxwell added to his collection comes from the women he features. He refers to confident women, like Lady Gaga—his best friend who appeared front row, as ‘Brandon Maxwell’ women. When asked to describe exactly what this means, he said: “She is a natural beauty in her own right who, even in the face of adversity, is uniquely poised and effortlessly striking. She’s strong, she’s smart, she’s bold. For her, fashion is a sense of security – a way to approach everyday life.” His ideas in fashion are reflected through his mindset toward women, something which all women can find admirable.

My outfit includes a black jumpsuit with black suede, block heeled sandals. I finished it off with a black leather purse to create a chic and classy look. I stuck with the neutral tones in his collection, which added to the sartorial stylishness of my look. With pieces of clothing revolving around timeless silhouettes and well-tailored pieces, I’ve in awe over Maxwell’s style and charm both on and off the runway. Flowing into his style, while still embracing my own style, is truly what pulled this look together.

Get My Look: 1. A black jumpsuit. 2. Block heeled sandals. 3. A leather bag.
