STYLE GURU STYLE: Bend It Like Denim

If there’s one thing we all have in common, it is indeed in the area of complaining. We all complain about many things. We complain about having little to no money, working a job we strongly dislike, going to school and of course the typical boy crush that indeed consumes us all. However, there is one thing we don’t feel the need to complain about and that is denim. Denim has a special place in our hearts. When we’re in doubt about what to wear or just too lazy to care, denim will always be the one to save us. Because if there’s one thing that will make our hearts happy, it is sure to be denim.

Denim is one of the biggest highlights in Madewell’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. I think it has to do with the fact that it’s versatile and, for the most part, easy to work with. The denim in this collection plays with different cuts, styles and flares. So if you’re one to gravitate towards the boot cut, bell bottom, skinny cut, high rise, low rise or any other flare of jeans, I think it will be love at first sight with the Madewell collection. And even if you’re not completely in love with just a simple jean, don’t run away just yet! They were also cool enough to throw in some overalls, trousers, skirts and jumpsuits! I know it all sounds perfect right?

Inspired by the good ol’ denim trend in this collection, I decided to go for the popular mom jeans. After searching long and hard for a pair, I was able to snag one at a thrift store for less than two dollars (cue the angels singing)! Though the collection has a warm fall look, I wanted to create a vintage and grungier version of it. Therefore, I paired my mom jeans with a collared ivory sleeveless top and added my bright red bowler hat, chunky black boots and a studded black belt. This kept my outfit from looking boring and bland, and it allowed the look to be more of a statement. You also can’t forget about the lips! Believe it or not, a nice strong lip can elevate your whole outfit to the next level. In my opinion you can never go wrong with a red lip, and I think the throne owning Taylor Swift can agree with me on that one.

So I don’t know about you, but I think I see a bit of Madewell in your future and mine. Now wouldn’t that be nice?
