STYLE GURU STYLE: Belt It

For years, I have overlooked belts as a fashion item, maybe because they are seen as mostly functional. But enter the western-inspired belt, an unusual accessory that carries an element of edge. As seen on celebrities and Fausto Puglisi’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection, it is definitely a piece that can be worn with everyday items.

Western style belts are a minimal-effort, but maximum-effect outfit trick to create interest. It can effortlessly accentuate a waistline, add a pop of shine and tie an outfit together. When wearing accessories, I consider myself a minimalist but as a lover of hardware, this statement belt is something I’ll style with my favorite denim. I paired a metal buckle with ankle booties and a cut-off T-shirt with a cactus print for more “western vibes.” To make it summer ready, I completed my look with a pair of aviators and a metal silver choker.

Modernize this western-inspired piece with high-waisted jeans and a white shirt, wear it slung with a maxi dress or cinched around the waist, or with cut-off shorts over a bodysuit for a festival ready look! Statement buckles give a cool twist to an ensemble of basics that you most likely own.

While some think of jewelry when accessorizing, don’t forget that belts can elevate a look like no other! Western-inspired belts can be found in different types of hardware, from double buckles and gold details to ones with studded embellishments. Amp up your next casual look and turn it into fashion gold with this statement piece.
