STYLE GURU STYLE: Beloved Black Blazer

Like many people, black is my go-to color when it comes to clothes. Looking for different ways to use the universal shade, I was inspired by an outfit from Cosmopolitan Magazine‘s May 2016 issue which featured pieces from the Vera Wang spring 2016 Ready-To-Wear collection. I would describe these looks in three words: sleek, daring, classy. I felt as if it were a line for rule-breaking business women! The collection largely focused on the colors black, white and red.

Out of the whole collection, I particularly loved the blazers because they somehow added power while remaining feminine. Using a blazer as the starting point for my look, I then needed to choose what to wear on the inside. For my top, I chose to wear a basic black crop top with a light fabric; I prefer a thinner fabric for the summer. To keep with Vera Wang’s classy theme, I went with high-waisted shorts on bottom. I chose a pair that had black-and-white polka-dots to add some texture to the look. If you want a more uniform look, you could just stick to solid black high-waisted shorts.

For accessories, I added in a red Burberry wallet to add the splash of red, and a delicate chain necklace to add a little shine. Although none of my clothing pieces were from Vera Wang, I was able to use a pair of Vera Wang heels I had in my closet! Wearing heels with high-waisted shorts give the ultimate illusion of longer legs.

That was one way to style a blazer without wearing a full-on suit, but you can definitely rock a blazer in other ways without looking like a business woman. If you would like to go for a more casual look, you can wear it with jeans, a t-shirt, and some Vans. Trendsetters often defy norms to create something new, and I think that the blazer is great one to experiment with!

Get My Look: 1. Black blazer. 2. Black crop top. 3. High-waisted shorts. 4. Heels. 5. Love necklace. 6. Red wallet.
