STYLE GURU STYLE: Belief On Basics

Until the moment my time as a Style Guru is complete, one thing I will repeat countless times is that I am always one for comfort. Whenever the latest runway season’s photos are released online, I’m constantly gravitated to 6397’s most relevant season. Stella Ishii and her team always are dead-on with perfecting the basics in a look. While looking at the 6397 pre-fall 2016 collection, my beliefs on basics rang true.

I was absolutely obsessed with every single piece in this collection, from the mix of fabrics from knits to silk, and the use of Vans slip-on and Sk8-Hi sneakers. Any collection that uses my favorite lifestyle brand as their choice of shoe is the collection of my dreams. When the temperatures start to plummet, I find myself incorporating textures and silhouettes, all while staying cozy. I identified with look 11 specifically. With its use of sleek elegance in the top, but casual in the pants and shoes, it is basically my everyday look whether I’m going to class or running errands. I decided to pair darker colors that can be seen as taboo in the fashion world—black and navy blues. Sure, they are similar in shades, but I find the pairing of these colors to be timeless and edgy all at once. I wanted to keep the look of the turtleneck in my outfit, keeping the silhouette fitted, yet becoming looser working its way down. Even though the top is all black, I am fixated with the zipper detail in the back. To set the sleek look further, I decided to accompany black jeans to this look. Last, but not least, most arguably my favorite part of this outfit—my blue-on-blue Vans Sk8-Hi sneakers. Ever since I bought this pair back in August, I can wear them with almost any color and style, not to mention I feel ultra cool in them (even if I don’t skate).

6397’s collections can be incorporated in almost anyone’s wardrobe and can be worn time and time again, because the staple of casual and cool is a comfortable top paired with jeans and sneakers. This collection solidifies my idea of less is more, keeping the accessories to a minimum. If you’re looking for a response to the new, modern style in womenswear, look no further to Stella Ishii and the rest of the 6397 team.
