STYLE GURU STYLE: Be Coquettish And Embellish

Undeniably an essential for the holiday season, embellishments are a must for any piece in this winter season’s party wardrobe. Balmain x H&M Collection debuted on October 20, 2015, marked the comeback of sparkles ready-to-wear for the holidays and the following months. The show focused on pairing dark winter tones of green, red, blue and black with ornately decorative blazers and accessories. With the power house “genetics of Balmain,” as Olivier Rousteing says, and the affordable prices of H&M, this runway collection is a dream come true for Fashionistas and Fashionistos on a college budget.

Aside from being accessible, this collection can easily be recreated with pieces within our closets. As soon as I flipped my calendar page to the month of December, I knew it was time to bring out the dark hues of winter, the warm jackets and of course the party perfect sparkly pieces. The Balmain x H&M Collection also allows this trend of embellished pieces to follow through for the whole winter season. This means that I can unapologetically wear as much gold and pearly fabric as I desire, even after the New Year begins.

This New Year is all about power for me. What speaks of any more confidence than a black and gold detailed jacket? I decided to get inspiration from the Balmain Army and wear deep sea green, a color seen in the show’s look 37 with my silk blouse underneath a black-sleeved jacket with buttons, zippers and embellishments all of gold detail. To join in on the dark hue spectrum, I added black silky shorts and opaque tights to match my black leather booties. To add a flare of my own style I decided to tie a thin black scarf in the form of a bow around my neck and a classic side bag matching the black and gold theme.

I say, keep the party going, be coquettish and embellish.

Get My Look: 1. Jazzy jacket. 2. Dark toned blouse. 3. Black bottoms.
