STYLE GURU STYLE: Basic + Bold

To wear a basic piece or to wear a statement piece, that is the question. Basics are essential to any outfit but sometimes you just want to stand out. Well, I can say it’s easy and possible to do both. If there’s one thing that I love about buying clothes, it’s finding a basic piece that has a stand-out print incorporated into it. The alice + olivia spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection does that with ease. This collection gives flair and bold patterns to your favorite basic pieces such as crop tops, skater skirts and wide-leg trousers.

One of my favorite looks from the collection is the statement nude crop top with bejeweled flowers and gems and the coral wide-leg trouser pants. I decided to try this look out for myself but added my own spin to it. I opted for a basic black crop top and a bold, tribal-print wide-leg pant with oxfords to make it a little different.

It was easy for me to recreate this look because printed wide-leg pants are one of my favorite pieces of clothing to wear come spring and summer. They’re light in material, flattering to the sometimes not so flattering places and they come in a variety of fun and bold prints and colors. Another thing I like about these pants is that they effortlessly pair with basic pieces like T-shirts, crop tops and tank tops.

The mixing of basic and statement pieces allow for easy and eye-catching outfits that don’t take too much time to put together. It’s summer, and I’m a college student so that means easy outfits by any means possible, and mixing prints and basics allows me to do that while still looking good.
