STYLE GURU STYLE: Back to the '60s

Summer is the season to relax, rest and rejuvenate—or so I thought. My week days are devoted to working, hair cut appointments, lunch with old friends, etc. I soon found myself out and about in the city so frequently that I knew I had to step my style game up. With so many different occasions to dress for in one day, I decided to keep my style comfortable and cute.

I was inspired by the Carven fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The 1960s brought us boxy tops, muted colors and A-line skirts. Carven has now revived and refined this decade by adding more masculine touches. More slim-fitting trousers and dark, plain footwear allow for the tops to speak for themselves. The collection features all shades of gray from a pure white to a deep black.

Struck by stark white blouses and patent black shoes, I decided to create a style fit for any occasion this summer yet subtly nod to the ’60s. The button-down permits a professional attitude during summer school or internships. Short sleeved and a boxy-fit make for a perfect warm weather option. Never ignore the color white in humid, sunny weather. Getting stuck wearing all black while sitting in direct light might be your worst nightmare.

Instead of a slim trouser, I opted for a muted, hunter green, skinny jean. I tend to highlight only a few of my pieces when trying to execute a trend such as this. The soft color of my pants allow my shirt and shoes to do the talking. Switching the loafer seen walking down Carven’s runway to a flat from Valentino, I still managed to sport the shiny patent leather remembered in the 1960s.

Get My Look: 1. A crisp, white button-down. 2. Skinny, cargo pants. 3. Bold, ballet flats.
