STYLE GURU STYLE: Back to Black

Fall is officially here which means fashion has officially arrived. We all love summer and spring fashion, but the colder seasons allow us to layer our wardrobe to create a more original look.
Here at Hampton University, we’re still struggling between seasons. Some days are chilly but others still happen to be fairly warm. To satisfy the demands of the weather and my yearning for a colder season, I wear a little of everything and in this instance, it came out perfectly.
With black being one of my favorite colors to wear, I couldn’t ignore fashion designer, Hubert de Givenchy’s, fall 2015 ready-to- wear collection. The collection consists of mainly black pieces with textures ranging from lace to velvet. He described his fall mash up as a “Victorian chola girl.” My favorite look is look 45. It features a black fur jacket over a black ruffled dress, paired with black booties. It’s a simple fit, yet it has enough soft detail to make it girly but enough edge to make it chic.
Inspired by Givenchy’s collection, I mocked his look by wearing a “back to black” ensemble that also incorporated my own style. To follow his footsteps in being simple but demanding, I wore a black cross front crop top with a form fitting black midi skirt. I paired it with a textured clutch and a gold and black necklace for accessories. For shoes, I went with a suede and scale textured pair of black booties. To bring it all together, I threw on a pair of shades with a fur collar. Each piece is very simple but when put together as one, it makes a chic fashion statement!
Get My Look: 1. Fur collar. 2. Crop top. 3. Black booties.
