STYLE GURU STYLE: Back to Basics

January 12th, 2015 at 2:05am

The pre-fall 2015 collection from 6397 gives a wardrobe basics lover like myself life. Stella Ishii and company’s fuss-free tomboy-inspired offering is ripe with loose boyfriend jeans, oversized T-shirts and the coziest looking sweaters. As if the show’s casual cool aesthetic wasn’t stylish enough, the uber trendy Vans Sk8-Hi’s and slip on sneakers give the outfits an edgy finish.

As the owner of a pair of Sk8-Hi’s and a self-proclaimed lazy dresser, I knew I had to give this tomboy attire a try. My boyfriend jeans, like the ones in the show, are slightly baggy, which gives me the ability to eat as much Chick-Fil-A as I want. However, the jeans are slim enough to keep me from looking like I could house a family in the legs.

I usually don’t like slogan T-shirts just because I find them to be super cheesy and usually groan-worthy. However, this alphabet T-shirt has the perfect amount of writing—and let’s be honest “M” is the best letter in the alphabet. I’m not biased at all, I swear.

The middle school version of me would have loved my sartorial choices. I think that’s why initially I was really put off by the idea of wearing skate shoes. Skate shoes, in my mind, were reserved for guys with shaggy hair and a blatant “I don’t give a crap” attitude. All things aside, these shoes are ridiculously comfortable, making them a great shoe for running all around campus in.

This pre-fall collection inspired me to take a break from my skin-tight skinny jeans and go back to the basics, albeit with a tomboyish flare. In doing so, I realized how easy it is to look stylish while still maintaining the ability to flail my legs in any which direction, something skinny jeans restrict you from doing. Maybe I’ll even make it my new years resolution to stop buying skinny jeans and go back to the basics.

Get My Look: 1. An oversized T-shirt. 2. Boyfriend jeans. 3. Skate shoes.
