STYLE GURU STYLE: Athleisure Attitude

Work out wear has saturated the clothing market since the societal acceptance of yoga pants. It has been rumored that yoga pants and leggings are quickly running denim companies out of business. Has the day come where fashion meets comfortability? The answer is a resounding YES! Countless “athleisure” styled outfits have hit runways around the world, as seen in shows by Rebecca Minkoff, rag & bone, Vetements, Yeezy and more. Today, we focus on Alexander Wang’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear show. During the show, athletic-inspired outfits featuring unique textures, modern color-blends and fashionable sneakers made their way down the catwalk.

The great thing about athleisure? Aside from being fashionable and comfortable at the same time, athleisure looks can be transformed to suit any occasion. Not headed to the gym in your work out wear? Who cares! Knock out the haters with your killer outfit. One thing we are thankful for is how easy it is to take Alexander Wang’s athleisure looks from the runway to the streets—or to brunch, shopping, hiking, football games…anywhere, really.

When picking an athleisure-themed outfit, it is important to start with the basics: bottoms. There are many power house brands that have taken over the yoga pant/legging market, like Nike, adidas, Victoria’s Secret and lululemon. Fashionable athletic pieces are even starting to make their way into more cost-efficient stores like Forever 21 and Target, making athletic clothes as every day wear more accessible to Fashionistas/os around the world. If we know anything, it’s that athleisure is a style we never want to run out.

Paralleling Alexander Wang’s runway looks, adding subtle hints of vibrant colors in a neutral-themed outfit is a great addition to any athleisure ensemble. Ensure that all eyes are on you by wearing pieces with trendsetting materials like mesh, leather or lace. Topping the look off with an athletic hat is a great way to continue the sporty theme (and hide a bad hair day). Headed to a sporting event? Wear a hat that represents your team and show your spirit without totally ruining your outfit. Cooling down for winter? Throw on your favorite bomber jacket or full-length coat to stay warm and stylish. Add a nude lip to your beauty routine to keep your makeup natural and simple. To finish off your look, throw on your favorite pair of sneakers and you are ready to run!
