STYLE GURU STYLE: As Fur Me

Happy Holidays Fashionista/os! The end of a long semester is finally here, but that doesn’t mean that it’s time to give up your style and opt for cozy sweatpants every day. I personally love December weather because you can bundle up and layer, looking both cute and comfortable at the same time. This winter, I am loving faux fur elements! From vests to jackets to gloves, faux fur is a great way to add some color and texture to your look while still keeping warm.

I started this outfit out with some of my favorite black staples (shocker!). I am sporting my go-to black skinny jeans paired with an adorable, tight black turtleneck adorned with subtle bell sleeves. The silhouette of bell sleeves is another trend that I just can’t get enough of this season. Refined sleeves like the ones on this shirt can be worn easily to class, while more dramatic bell sleeves are a great option for holiday parties. I topped this look off with a mixed-media cable-knit and faux fur vest in a bright cream that really pops against the all-black look.

Faux fur vests are versatile and cozy, making them a winter essential. Because they can often be voluminous, I recommend pairing them with a tighter fitting shirt. Rather than choosing a plain long-sleeve T-shirt, try choosing a turtleneck or cold-shoulder top for a trendier look. Fur vests also look great paired with your favorite little black dress for a fancier occasion. They give any dress a chic, winter vibe while also keeping you nice and warm.

If vests aren’t your style, or you are as perpetually cold as I am, faux fur jackets are a great option for the winter weather as well. Jackets in neutral colors such as black and cream can easily be worn daily, while funkier colors like blush, wine and even blue will make any of your ordinary outfits stand out. Faux fur jackets are a great piece to invest in because they are sure to keep you warm and looking your best.

Next time you find yourself staring into your closet, ready to complain that you have nothing to wear, try incorporating an element of faux fur into your look. Whether you grab for a vest to layer with, or you decide to finish off your outfit with a jacket—or even gloves—elements of faux fur are sure to impress and keep you feeling warm despite chilling temperatures.
