STYLE GURU STYLE: April Showers

Givenchy’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection is the perfect style to convert into a cute, casual ensemble that will endure all of the dreary April showers. With the temperature warming up, dresses are the perfect pieces to celebrate spring. They’re comfortable and look adorable accessorized with an umbrella. Givenchy’s runway collection is a mixture of little black dresses in different styles, cuts, materials and lengths. The little black dress has always been one of my favorite fashion trends because it truly never goes out of style. I love how Givenchy took a basic look and was able to design many unique and interesting styles that are all very similar but yet very unique at the same time.

I chose a short baby doll style dress to recreate Givenchy’s runway designs. The dress contains lace details and cutouts on the upper torso. The lace is a floral pattern that is perfect for the spring months. Who doesn’t think of birds chirping and flowers blooming?  I added a long black cardigan over the dress. It’s warming up, but there’s still a slight chill in the air, so taking a light jacket or sweater with you to class is pertinent. The best way to tackle the ever-changing Pittsburgh weather is to dress in layers.

My black and white Keds really style down the look and add a very slight contrast to an all-black outfit. The white soles also complement the white details on my bubble umbrella. The umbrella is one of my favorite parts of this outfit. It’s fun and functional. An umbrella can be a great accessory to accent your style on rainy days. I chose a classic, clear umbrella, but the possibilities are endless. You can match an outfit with patterned umbrellas or even be bold and try bright colors. You’re sure to stand out walking down the street with a neon umbrella.
