STYLE GURU STYLE: Anchors Away

Whether it be anchor embroidered shorts or navy striped T-shirts, summer 2015 fashions have been undeniably nautical. The formula for nautical-themed style is almost as perfectly simple as the looks themselves. Combine navy, white, stripes and the occasional pop or yellow or red. This formula seamlessly combines simplicity, elegance and luxury into everyday looks. There is no one who knows that formula better than the fashion giant, Michael Kors. He is well known for his ability to translate luxury and elegance into casual street wear.

What better season than summer to draw inspiration from the nautically themed Michael Kors spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection? To anchor down Kors’ ability to create nautically themed looks that combine luxury and simplicity, I chose this navy, ribbed midi dress perfect for a day on the beach or a night out. This dress can be easily toned up or down, making it perfect for any occasion. The crewneck neckline of this dress, which is a very typical element of any nautically themed garment, was similar to many of the necklines featured in the collection.

In true KORS Michael Kors style, I finished this look with a simple gold chain necklace that has just enough dazzle to draw attention while keeping the look minimalistic and elegant. I used the same simple-yet-flashy train of thought when choosing shoes for this outfit. Though an undeniably basic sandal, my T-strap sandals feature an elegant bow that gives the perfect touch of gold.

You may not find yourself on an actual boat or even near water this summer. Don’t get too blue, though! With a little nautical inspiration, your fashion can sail into smooth styles cooler and more refreshing than dip in the water!
