DKNY has been upping its fashion game recently. The brand’s spring 2014 ready-to-wear show was phenomenal, largely thanks to its smooth transition from killer street styles to knockout evening gowns. There was an even balance between sporty and glam, and I loved every second of it. Of course, I was most thrilled when I saw overalls not once, but twice on the runway. I was so excited when overalls began to reappear in stores recently and I think that DKNY shows exactly how the cool girl can style them.
For this show, I wanted to replicate DKNY’s overall vision (pun intended) as much as possible. Since the overalls had to be the focal point of the outfit, I kept the other elements on the simple side so as to let the centerpiece shine. I used an oversize black blazer to upgrade the outfit a bit. I think a blazer is just the thing to counter the relaxed vibe of the one-piece. It dresses up the denim without seeming too fancy.
DKNY relies on bright orange and pink lipstick throughout the show to add color to the outfits and keep things fresh. I went with a fun orange one to brighten up the look. I also threw on a black baseball cap to maintain the image the brand created during the show. The hat adds to the contrast between sporty and classy.
Finally, I wrapped the outfit up with a pair of pointy black heels. These heels are covered in spikes and easily prevent the look from seeming too casual. They link the hat and the blazer and solidify the effortless classiness that DKNY embodies.
