STYLE GURU STYLE: All Wrapped Up

I may be getting a little ahead of myself, but I was recently absolutely inspired by Madewell’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Maybe it’s the rainy Milan weather or maybe it’s the major online sales for cold weather clothing, but I am obsessing over a trend that is sure to be the hottest this fall: capes.

I had the perfect opportunity this rainy week to foreshadow the cape-wearing season with a look inspired by Madewell. Beginning with the obvious, my cape was the creative pop to my ensemble. Over top of a black canvas of a tank top, leggings and booties, the deep plaid in the cape catches eyes and adds texture, color and dimension to the otherwise simple look. The tassels on the bottom are an additional detail adding some uniqueness to the overall look.

Similar to Madewell’s style, I used minimal accessories, besides a hidden umbrella and let the cape be the stand-out piece. When styling a cape, it is important to be subtle with your choice in the pieces going under. Simple is always best, especially if your cape features a pattern or print. Jeans, leggings and skirts of a solid color are always a good option. For the top, a solid tank or T-shirt will do. If you want to spice it up a little, a cropped button-down shirt adds a nice crisp white to the look.

While we’re all in warm weather, spring mode, check out some of the awesome cold weather sales going on and prep your closet for fall’s hottest trends. Mix things up and try out a cape in all different materials, prints and styles!
