STYLE GURU STYLE: All in One

The advent of the Suitsy—a business suit onesie by startup Betabrand, also inventors of the Dress Pant Sweatpants and Sweat Suit Blazer— has made it clear that we are in dire need of more work options that allow us to look professional and yet stay comfortable. Despite my penchant for sky high stiletto heels, I’ve always believed that it’s possible to rock relaxed dressing for interviews or work without sacrificing professionalism and fashion sense. Céline’s spring/summer 2015 ready-to-wear collection illustrated this point—that smart dressing can be achieved with loose-fitting jumpsuits, wide-legged trousers and flowing skirts. The rise of relaxed pieces such as smart joggers and culottes in everyday fashion have proven that style and comfort are not mutually exclusive, and suggests that perhaps the fashion industry is trending towards a more slouchy norm.

This jumpsuit from Urban Outfitters is the epitome of that school of thinking, with a loose fit but also a smart, blazer-like lapel that looks put together and refined. In black, the piece is resistant to everyday stains and as always, is a color that works for every occasion. It’s a versatile piece that can be elevated for evening with heels (as seen), or sandals for the weekend. Lastly, the relaxed cut makes it bearable to have long trousers in the summer heat.

Simple wardrobe staples like this can be accessorized in a variety of ways, but I chose to dress it up simply with stud earrings and a simple leather and steel cuff from COS – respectively one quirky and one businesslike accessory. With this functional leather messenger bag (also from COS), there’s plenty of room to fit work essentials such as smartphones, notepads and pens, while keeping you light on your feet and ready to go (for all those suffering interns). This formula will keep your style on point even in the longest days at the office.
