STYLE GURU STYLE: All About The Qipao

Hello Fashionistas! The season we have all been waiting for is here – summer! It is the season of experimenting with colors, bold prints and patterns. As much as I love pairing black and white items together, adding a touch of color is always fun.

The inspiration behind this outfit comes from Mohammed Ashi’s resort 2016 collection on Style.com; the designer is known for his rich details, asymmetric folds and billowy silhouettes. The collection has effortless simplicity and elegance. The collection inspired me to use a traditional Chinese dress, known as Qipao, as outerwear. I wanted to create an outfit based on looks 12 and 13 of the collection because they stood out to me the most. The pieces were breathtaking.

To create a similar look, I have on a black sleeveless dress, which I purchased from H&M, and a Chinese dress which I purchased at a street market in Hong Kong. This has become one of my favorite outfits this summer because it’s comfortable, chic and different. By pairing the Qipao over the black dress, the outfit becomes more interesting and stands out.

This outfit can be worn to many different occasions such as dinner, a night out with friends or even to the cinema with a different pair of shoes to make it more casual. The brightly-colored Qipao is an attention-grabber and brings the whole outfit to life. Another reason why l am a fan of the Qipao is because you can style it in several ways; it can be worn as a dress or with a pair of denim jeans and a T-shirt. It can be worn casually with slippers or sneakers and can be made dressy with a pair of killer heels.

The final pieces are shoes and a backpack. I decided to complete this look with my black closed-toe heels from Hautelook and a backpack. The shoe made the outfit look clean and the backpack made it street sophisticated.

Get My Look: 1. A black dress. 2. Heels. 3. Qipao.
