STYLE GURU STYLE: A Work-ing Closet

It is no secret that one of the best ways to succeed in the fashion industry is by gaining experience, and that usually comes in the form of an internship. However, a fashion internship is different from a regular internship in the fact that how you look and what you wear actually counts. If I have learned anything about compiling the best “work closet” is that the pieces in it should be representative of your style and who you are as well as what you would consider as “investment pieces.”

What this means is that your work closet should actually just be a part of your actual closet. You never know who you will run into, and to look put together and stylish will never ever hurt. Because it is summertime and absolutely boiling here in New York, I decided to go with a nude-colored tank top. Although some offices are okay with letting you show off your arms and such, I do not think that it is always the best idea because you want to look modest. So if I were to actually wear this to my office I would pair it with a blazer or leather jacket. This way, I could show off the pretty color and lace detailing of the top without breaking any rules, but when I go outside I would be able to stay cool and rock it to a brunch with my friends and such.

My black “cigarette pants” are both stylish and classy and can be worn a million different ways—with sneakers, heels, a sweater, jacket, tank top and so much more. They are thin enough so I can wear them during the summer and since they are pants they are still work-friendly and season-friendly. The pair I am wearing in the photos are from Aritzia and quite pricey but there are tons of affordable options out there so they are easy to find.

I finished off the look with a pair of black caged Jeffrey Campbell wedges that were perfect for this morning’s girls’ brunch and gave my outfit a fancier feel. I get tons of compliments on them but I would definitely wear this same outfit with black booties for my internship since tons of running around is involved.
