As a girl who loves fashion but still hasn’t fully comprehended the world of couture, ready-to-wear has always been a go-to when I look up current runway trends. Who doesn’t love watching glamorous models on the runway and actually being able to see yourself wearing their look? When I came across alice + olivia‘s fall 2014 collection, I immediately saw similarly styled clothing in my closet. From the simpler shapes and colors to the more decorated and embellished pieces, what sold me were the dark, grungy garments and a whole lot of lace. There were lace bodysuits, lace details and even lace applique. As someone who enjoys the transition from warm summery clothing to finding a million and one ways to style a sweater, this ready-to-wear collection was literally a reflection of my dream fall color palette.
I like to keep things simple, so I went for a less embellished look than some of the ones in the collection. To translate this look into my personal style, I pulled out my ever shrinking black lace bodysuit and paired it with a pleated burgundy skirt from American Apparel in order to emulate one of my favorite looks from the collection. I slipped on my sky high Jeffrey Campbell-esque black heeled booties because at 5’2, a girl needs all the height she can get.
Even though I opted for a simpler version of the inspired look from the collection, I now have the urge to incorporate more embellished pieces into my outfits, dive into my love for dark hues and try some new colors such as the mustard color of this top/skirt combo or the poppy emerald green of this dress.
