STYLE GURU STYLE: A Velvet Winter

Winter in Florida equates to a lower humidity and if you’re lucky, a low of 70 degrees. The sunshine state makes dressing for the winter season a challenge but I allow my desire for colder weather to come out in textures and rich colors.

For this look, I paired a denim button up skirt with a light long-sleeve striped shirt and my favorite find, velvet peep toe booties! The luxurious texture of the velvet adds a sense of warmth to the outfit while the skirt plays down the long sleeve shirt making it the perfect outfit for a sun kissed winter day!

I recently hopped on the bandwagon and brought back denim skirts which has proven to be an excellent comeback for the warm winter season! I chose a dark denim that is fitted and hits mid thigh since I’m wearing a long-sleeve shirt. The shirt is simple and light weight, making it perfect for layering with a jacket on a chilly night.

My favorite part of this look is the booties! Black, velvet, and peep toe, it’s my favorite accessory of the winter! The chunky heel and wrap around strands add the perfect details for a walk around campus or downtown!

A lot of my style is found in the way I style my items, my makeup, or my hair. I like to wear deep reds and taupes during the winter and to add pops of color to my look! I’ve also paired this look with a gold bracelet and cuff earrings for a little bit of edge. This outfit proves that dressing for a warm winter doesn’t have to include shorts and you’re summer sandals, add some texture and a pop of color and hit the sun soaked streets!
