STYLE GURU STYLE: A Touch of European Flair

Skirts and dresses have been a staple in my wardrobe ever since I developed a passion for fashion. I wear one or the other nearly every day due to the instant style they provide and the ease of wearing them! However, it can be a bit more difficult to wear these items now that fall has hit and even cooler weather is approaching. To combat the cold, I decided to pair this skirt with a long sleeve knit top, some black socks and a pair of vintage-inspired booties topped off with a red beret.

One of my favorite things about wearing this outfit is that I can, rest assured, know that my look is unique, since two of the items came from thrift stores rather than fast fashion chains or department stores where items are sold in large quantities. Thrifting is super affordable, especially when you like to update your wardrobe as frequently as I do! I actually found the top at a thrift store I scoped out during summer vacation in Holland, Michigan, and I found the old-school booties more recently while thrifting around my local community. Another fun fact about this outfit: I got this lovely little beret as a gift from a friend who studied in Paris!

One reason I think this outfit works so well is because it effectively utilizes a monochromatic color scheme, meaning that the only break from black and white within the outfit is a single color (red), which can be seen by the beret and in the color of my lipstick. The details of this outfit, such as the grid texture of the skirt, the movement of the stripes across the top of the shirt and the sweet little bow around the neckline make it more interesting as well. Fingers crossed that the temperature won’t drop too rapidly so that I can continue to wear outfits like this one!
