For some Fashionista/os, leather is like a second skin. It’s tight but comfortable. I, however, am not brave enough to wear leather on a regular basis. I like loose fabrics in bright colors. Because of this natural preference, I was surprised by how much I liked the Diesel Black Gold pre-fall 2014 collection. The line makes leather seem glamorous. The black leather jackets and boots are shiny and embellished with studs and chains. My favorite way the fabric was used in the line was as an adornment. It was added to the hems of jackets and blouses, giving feminine pieces an edge that is both tough and glamorous.
By basing my outfit off of these pieces, I was able to incorporate leather into my outfit without losing my girly style. For this outfit, classic dark jeggings got a tough edge with the addition of a leather stripe on the side. On top I wore a strapless top with a sweetheart neckline. It’s made almost completely of leather, but I like how the poof of peplum in a light fabric gives it a softer touch. The sweetheart neckline gave me the perfect opportunity to add some glam in the form of a black and gray statement necklace. I almost stuck with the all-black theme and wore black heels, but the pops of red on my lips, nails and pumps unexpectedly brought the whole look together.
The Diesel Black Gold pre-fall collection is proof that glamor and leather can mix. If you’re anxious to try this popular trend but have a softer style, try adding it in small pieces to ease yourself into it.
