STYLE GURU STYLE: A Cut Above

Looking into the Junya Watanabe fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I was taken by the emphasis on structured geometric patterns. Ponchos, jackets, dresses and shirts were designed in a way that combined the simplicity of the pieces themselves with the complexity of the fabrics used. The designer layers white button-ups and freshly cut trousers with geometric ponchos, honing in on the importance of classic and clean pieces.

Junya Wantanabe’s focus on well-cut pieces resided with me. I wanted to incorporate this structure into my look and I do so with my pleated leather skirt and subdued sweater. The color of leather and patterned pleats combine to make the skirt the statement piece of my outfit and I wanted to make sure I highlighted that. I paired it with a dark gray cowl necked sweater and matching gray tights which makes the skirt pop.

I was going for a simple look so I left the accessories to a minimum. Short black boots are my staple for fall as they are simple, comfy and easy to throw on. I wore a pair of kate spade sunglasses and a Chan Luu wrap bracelet that work in all seasons.

What I like about this look is that it is polished in a minimal way. It is extremely versatile and I could easily translate it from day to night. Junya Watanabe’s collection demonstrates that underneath it all it is important to have tailored pieces. That’s what I’ll be focusing on this fall!

Get My Look: 1. Cowl necked sweater. 2. Leather skirt. 3. Ankle boots.
