STYLE GURU STYLE: A Cape in Point

Since this winter has been pretty mild (so far), I find myself being able to get away with wearing lighter outerwear instead of a puffy winter coat. My go-to “jacket” is wearing a blanket cape. The blanket cape has been on the runway for quite a few years now, but this trend has finally reached its way into affordable clothing stores. I recently came across Burberry’s pre-fall 2016 collection. This collection has a ’70s vibe to it: flared pants, oversized coats and capes. My favorite look from the runway was a burgundy knit blanket cape with fringe paired with burgundy bell-bottom pants.

I recreated this on the runway look to an everyday outfit with pieces from my wardrobe. I styled this white surplice top with a pair of ripped black skinny jeans, giving the outfit a chic and modern vibe. Instead of using an actual blanket cape, I took an oversized blanket scarf, folded it in half and draped it over my shoulders. I love this blanket scarf, because it can serve as both a scarf and a cape! In order to incorporate the burgundy aspect from the runway, I added a cross-body satchel to complete my look. I finished the look with a pair of black ankle booties.

A white top, black skinny jeans and an oversized scarf are closet essentials! These pieces are so versatile and can be worn with other clothing items to create different looks.

Get My Look: 1. Blanket scarf. 2. Black destroyed skinny jeans. 3. Surplice top. 4. Merlot cross-body satchel.
