STYLE GURU STYLE: 50 Shades of Stylish Gray

Although it is summertime and a lot of people wear bright colors, neutrals never go out of style. This week I chose to show off some of my neutrals after seeing the J.Crew spring runway show online. J.Crew is known for their basics and neutrals, so I decided to pull together some of my own basics and create an outfit similar to one on the runway.

White jeans are a great summer staple item to own. After Memorial Day and before Labor day, white jeans are a go-to for a fresh summer look. Being inspired by the J.Crew look, I chose to make my white jeans the “bright” part of my neutral outfit. Some people are afraid of white jeans, but personally, I think everyone should have a pair in their wardrobe.

Sticking with the neutral theme, I paired my white jeans with a light gray top and layered that with a gray jacket. Yes, it is summer, but the jacket I chose is lightweight and very loose to fit with the summer weather. Also, living in San Francisco, summers are not humid and hot; rather, summers are 60 or 70 degrees and beautiful, so jeans and a light jacket can work!

Finally, I decided to have some fun with my shoes (like always). I love shoes, and I love to try new and interesting styles. With this outfit, I added the pop of black in the shoes and chose a small heel for this more casual look. I also finished off the outfit with black sunglasses to match the shoes and a simple lariat necklace.

Being in college, my wardrobe consists mostly of neutral and basic items—a lot of mix and match options! With small dorm rooms and limited closet space, bringing your basics to school is a must. You can take 10 items and create more than 20 looks really easily. So as you head back to school this year, consider packing those neutrals or purchasing the necessities—you’ll thank yourself, and me, later.

Get My Look: 1. White jeans. 2. A gray jacket. 3. Black heels.
