Hello Fashionistas and Fashionistos! I am Zoya and I am thrilled to be a part of CollegeFashionista this year and to be writing every Wednesdays FASHIONISTA/O SPOTLIGHT posts.
What I love about writing this type of post is the process leading into it; watching Toronto city in action and hand picking students each week who inculcate style in their own unique way. Toronto’s unpredictable weather can motivate students to get creative and make bold choices in trying to be distinctive and independent yet stay fashionable among the sea of puffer jackets, snow boots and overfilled backpacks. Interviewing students and sharing their findings of budget friendly solutions to enliven a simple but necessary outfit is what I find to be extremely inspiring and perhaps what makes street style so influential.
I am in my first year at University of Toronto and also in my first year living in Canada’s wintry climate. Whilst moving away from the sweltering heat in which I grew up in was a challenging adjustment, it is an exciting change to my wardrobe! But of course, having separation anxiety from my beloved cottons and linens, I transformed my favorite pieces in workable winter wear. You will probably see me live in my harem pants, I can wear about three pairs of leggings underneath when the winds turn chilly but can also wear them out with a pair of sky-high heels (I’m tiny in person). Nothing beats cozying up in my HOMIÉS crew neck which is one of my classic must-haves. Above all, I am obsessed with my jumpsuit collection! Jumpsuits can be revolutionized nicely from summer to winter, layer over (or underneath in my case) with a warm fur gilet or an open coat.
Accessories wise, I cannot live without my watch but leaving home without a scarf around my neck is rare! (For the photo, I had left mine in the car!) From printed to infinity and pashmina wool, I think a scarf can bring an outfit color, class and its more essential use, warmth!
Just like many others, I find creative inspiration from the people around me and the confidence they exude, and so I feel so much joy to be one of the people who will bring Toronto’s one-of-a-kind Fashionista/o’s who into your view! Until next Wednesday!
