STYLE GURU BIO: Yahri Shavers

June 3rd, 2016 at 2:00am

Hello all! My name is Yahri Shavers. If you asked me to describe myself, I would draw a blank and not be able to recall any of my admirable qualities. After a few awkward laughs to buy myself some time, I would use the words: funny, hungry and fabulous.

I chose to pursue my undergraduate degree in Chicago, so that I could live the city life. My major is fashion business and my goal is to lead a luxury brand as a creative director. I have tons of ideas and I am always searching for unique ways to translate them into products that make people think. My creativity is my strength and I am constantly working to develop it.

This is my first semester as a Style Guru and I am thrilled for what’s to come. My personal style comes off as polished, yet edgy. When I put together an outfit, I naturally gravitate toward solid, neutral tones. Often, I reach for a nude heel, cross-body bag or timeless aviator sunglasses. I experiment with textured fabric, unusual silhouettes and bold makeup in an effort to keep things interesting and youthful. Fashion is ever changing, and so am I. That is why I find the industry so appealing.

Aside from fashion, people interest me. I love to read, because it is refreshing to immerse myself into someone else’s reality for a short time. I also love to travel, which gets me to see how other humans live life. If it wasn’t so common, I probably would’ve studied sociology, but I prefer to go against the grain. I try to work out five days per week, but it usually ends up being about three. I am no Rachael Ray, but I am pretty good in the kitchen. Life can get monotonous if you don’t try new things, so I am always up for an adventure. Even so, I try to keep in mind that I can always find inspiration and contentment in the little things in life.

I am so happy to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team. I can only imagine how much I will learn from this opportunity. As DJ Khaled said, “Ride with me through the journey of more success.”
