STYLE GURU BIO: Wendy Wei

My name is Wendy Wei and I am a sophomore student at University of Washington. I originally come from China and my international background widens my worldview. The great combination of business sense from my mom and the logical mindset from my dad, plus my great passion about fashion and art, I am excitedly applying to the business school with a focus on marketing and international business.

My colorful journey of fashion and art started when I was a kid. With a supportive and stylish grandma, I lightheartedly threw myself into the world of art: singing, dancing and painting. Her closet and dresser were once my happy lands. I often get amazing inspirations to my adventure of fashion from the mixture of various kinds of art. Joining La Mode, the fashion club of UW, as a member of the magazine committee and staying stylish with all Fashionistas polishes my fashion experience and definitely makes me even crazier about fashion.

The internship experience at MILK magazine from Hong Kong offered me great amount of professional ideas about fashion industry. I read through a huge amount of fashion magazines, blogs as well as websites and then wrote fashion reports for the editor as references. I am still keeping such habit and collecting all images of tasteful looks I enjoy. Driven by the interest of both writing and fashion, I create my own focal point (#FashionHunt#) on all my social media to share those looks with my personal opinions. I also tried to start my own business as a part-time personal shopper this summer vacation. All clients’ positive and supportive reactions gave me a lot of encouragement. I just become more and more certain about the importance of fashion to my life.

I love piecing all the rough ideas together through the scavenger hunt in my closet. New ideas will come out and add more sparks to the process. Based on my figure and hourglass shape, I often collect different kinds of crop tops and high-waisted items, such as skirts, jeans, leggings and so on. I really like this kind of black crop top because it justly fits my upper body. This flared and high-waist skirt with unique design is one of my favorite. I sometimes top off my winter outfits here in Seattle with pointed ankle boots because of the cold and rainy weather.

The Seattle Fashion Week is coming soon this March and I am so looking forward to get inspirations from all those talented designers and fashion people. There will be a lot of sparkling news to share with you all this new season. I believe the new page of my fashion journey here at Collegefashionista will be fabulous.
