Hi, my name is Vivian and once again I will be on board writing as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this semester. I am currently in my sophomore year studying English and Art History at the University of Toronto. While writing the STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK column has been great, this semester I will be featuring a new column, WHAT TO WEAR, hoping to help college/university students with outfit options for various occasions. Fashion aside, I enjoy traveling, food, art and design, making Toronto the perfect city to live in.
My favorite thing about fashion is that it has so much to offer. It’s not only how comfortable you are or how well prepared you are for the weather, but how you express yourself and present yourself through your clothing to others. It’s a form of communication, an art form: practical, beautiful and everything in between. With fashion, the sky is the limit and it’s continually being pushed further season after season. For me, it’s truly mastered when everything is in place, simple or extravagant, but still manages to look effortless.
While my personal style ranges, I’d say it’s mostly filled with neutral colors, interesting basics and tons and tons of sweaters (making it casually chic?). Though it may be tempting to jump aboard every new trend, I think the key to building the perfect wardrobe for any Fashionista/o is a closet full of fashion staples, a few statement pieces with unique patterns and pops of color and the occasional trendy garment to mix things up. You can never go wrong with clothing that flatters your body, feels comfortable and makes you feel confident.
I love the confidence fashion can give and how everyone’s style is unique. I look forward to writing this column and meeting new Fashionista/os this spring!
