My name is Victoria and this will be my second semester reporting as a Style Guru. Every Friday, I will be updating you with a weekly ACCESSORIES REPORT from Philadelphia University’s campus as well as working on CollegeFashionista’s editorial team!
I am a junior Fashion Merchandising and Management major and I am thrilled to be pursuing a career in such a creative industry. I am currently the Blog Co-Editor of Style Line (PhilaU’s student run fashion publication), a Freelance Writer/Stylist and the Founding Editor-in-Chief of my own magazine that will be launching this summer. Since I was a child, Biggie’s lyrics, “Stay far from timid. Only make moves when your heart is in it. The sky is the limit,” has been a reminder to me that as long as I stay true to myself, no dream will ever be too big or unattainable.
Ever since I learned how to write, I have had an inclination to use writing as a way express my thoughts and create a world that merges my real life with my fantasies. All I really ever want to do is explore, write and repeat. My experience as a Style Guru last semester showed me that behind every outfit, is a story. Events, beliefs, feelings and desires are all things that influence our personal style and I aim to use this insight to, someday, perfect the art of fashion storytelling.
Aside from fashion and writing, there are many other parts of my world that make me who I am. I am a die hard Philadelphia Eagles fan, an obsessive Gossip Girl Netflix-er, a music enthusiast, an addicted tweeter and an aspiring astronomer. I’m really one of those girls who looks to horoscopes for answers and who goes outside on bitter cold nights just to look at the stars.
From fictional characters like Blair Waldorf to queens like Cleopatra, I am forever intrigued by women with unique styles who have made an impact on the world. I spend many of my mornings reading books about one of my favorites – Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. Her timeless quote, “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different,” has stuck with me to become a motto that I live by.
Depending on my mood or current interests, my personal style varies from day-to-day. Fall is my blooming season so I naturally choose to wear beanies, leather jackets, plaid flannels and boots all year long. Hanging up next to the laid back boyish half of my wardrobe is the feminine side with lots of pink, sequins, dresses and anything leopard print. To sum it up with words, my style is Cinderella aspiring to be a rapper in the ’90s. That may seem like an awkward description… But considering my lifestyle, it’s just right.
I am officially on a mission to emphasize that style is something beyond popular trends and luxury items; it’s a form of self-expression that represents who we are or who we want to be.
